The New Orbit Advantage™The New Orbit Advantage from Orbit Software Group is our combined offering of BACKUP+/iX and our new utility VM+/iX, which provides for:
The VM+/iX Value PropositionFor IT operations that need additional time on the HP MPE platform, and that have a current need to increase MPE performance, and a desire to reduce overall MPE operating costs, VM+/iX provides HP3000 users the capability to virtualize their existing servers onto other servers to achieve increased performance, long-term maintainability and significant cost savings. The New ORBiT Advantage Key Benefits
LicensingBased on our direct discussions with HP Staff and HP’s public statements, we understand, believe and accept that original HP e3000 MPE software licenses do not prohibit using MPE on any computer hardware configuration that it will run on. And after years of established customer usage there have been no communications of any kind from HP or a single third-party vendor regarding VM+/iX or similar solutions. Furthermore, HP declined as recently as February 2008 the opportunity to participate in a joint licensing arrangement for VM+/iX, and as such has no licensing requirements for VM+/iX. However, recently questions have arisen regarding HP’s newer “RTU policy” scheme. It is our belief that the RTU is an attempt by HP to retroactively redefine the MPE software license and to prohibit the use of such solutions as VM+/iX, third-party binary patches, emulator type solutions and other similar offerings. However it is generally believed that the RTU policy is not applicable if users do not sign them. In summary, until there is definitive information to the contrary, and for MPE users that have not selected to use the new RTU, we understand and believe that no licenses are needed for VM+/iX. Typical Installation ProcessOur fully trained and seasoned installation personnel deliver the VM+/iX Systems to your facility, fully rack mounted via secure and appropriate transportation. Our technician is equipped with the necessary handling equipment to move the System(s) into your data center. The client is responsible for providing the appropriate IT data center operating environment, the backup tape devices, and the necessary power supply and floor space requirements. Typically for each system these include a 30amp circuit with an L6 plug and workable space for a 2-meter extended cabinet. Backup devices should be Smart Enclosure mountable, and the conversion from standalone or system mounted devices will be provided by our technician. Following power supply connection and System start-up, our technician will require a full backup of the current system, which should include: DIRECTORY option and the BULDJOB1 and BULDJOB2 output jobs from the most recent BULDACCT job. In addition, print outs from SYSGEN and NMMGR will be requested, along with a DSTAT ALL and DISCFREE C listing. New IP addresses should be available for the GSP LAN CONSOLE port and DL320 COMANDVIEW server. Web access to HP, Microsoft, and ORBIT web sites from the server is desirable but not required. The technician will complete the configuration of the new systems based on the information provided at the time of installation. A detailed review of the new system will then take place to ensure that its configuration meets or exceeds the current system configuration. The thoroughness of this review will ensure the success of the installation. A re-load can then take place and system testing will begin.
